INITIALISE

Function

Writes bucket headers and first, second and third level indexing to E.D.S. type filestore files.

Format

INITIALISE file description,KWORDSm,BUCKETn,1STk,2NDq,3RDr

The first parameter describes the file to be initialised and mustbe in that position. The other parameters may follow in any order.

KWORDS gives the size of the file in units of 1,024 words.
BUCKET indicates the bucket size in 128 word blocks. The digit must be 1, 2, 4 or 8.
1ST, 2ND and 3RD refer to levels of indexing, and are qualified by the size in buckets of each index at that level. All are optional.

Execution

The INITIALISE command is a system macro, which loads and enters the program #XK68. The specified E.D.S. file is assigned for writing, so the user should have the traps reuqired to do this.

Examples

INITIALISE FRED,KWORDS12,1ST1 This would write bucket headers and first level indexing (the index can be held in one bucket) to the 12288 word file which had been organised so as to have four blocks to a bucket.
INITIALISE !-4,3RD4,2ND1,1ST1,KWORDS200,BUCKET8 This example illustrates the use of a temporary file and the movability of parameters.
