  ABANDON (AB)   Allows the user to abandon the execution of a job, or a user to abandon his own jobs
  ACCESS (AC)   Enables a program, such as a High Level Scheduler, to read from, or write to areas within GEORGE
  ALLOCATE (AO)   Enables the system manager to specify which filestore residence on which specified filestore files must be held
  ALLOWANCE (AW)   Increases a transient budget allowance for a named user or reduces a transient budget allowance ration of an immediate inferior of the proper user
  ALTER (AL)   Resets the contents of a location in the core image
  ANSWER (AN)   Gives the answer to a QUESTION command and sets this as the current display of the specified job
  ARCHIVE (AR)   Enables a user to nominate files owned by him that are to be thrown off-line whenever the backing store unjammer is called in to unjam on-line filestore
  ASSIGN (AS)   Causes a named filestore file to be opened and associated with the current program in such a way that PERI instructions for the specified peripheral are simulated by reading from or writing to the file
  ASSOCIATE (AE)   Set up an association between commands issued from a remote device and a property attributed throughout the installation
  ATTACH (AH)   Attaches a line of a multiplexer or uniplexer to a named conceptual
  ATTRIBUTE (AU)   Connects a peripheral property with a particular unit on the installation
 
  BRACKETS (BR)   Changes the command delimiters at the current command level
  BROADCAST (BC)   Outputs a given text on all or a selection of the MOP consoles from which user jobs are being run
  BUDGET (BT)   Alters the privileged status of an inferior of the proper user, or increases a budget ration of his immediate superior or of an immediate inferior, or reduces a budget ration of an immediate inferior
  BUDGETQUERY (BQ)   Enables a user to find out which privileges or how much of any budget type he or one of his immediate inferiors has at his disposal
 
  CANCEL (CC)   Cancels a previously issued command
  CANTDO (CD)   Informs GEORGE that the operator is unable to implement a system request
  CARTRIDGE (CG)   Informs GEORGE that the operator is about to move a cartridge which contains one or more filestore or swap residences from one drive to another
  CENTRAL (CT)   Changes the sources of a job from remote to central
  CHANGELIST (CH)   Changes the properties specified in a LISTFILE entry
  CHUCKOFF (CK)   To allow specific files to be put offline immediately without waiting for a backing store jam (M268)
  CONCEPTUAL (CL)   Introduces a conceptual name to the system
  CONNECT (CN)   Connects a background job to the MOP terminal from which it is issued
  CONTINUE (CU)   Terminates a BREAK-IN and continues a job from the point at which the break-in occurred
  COPY (CY)   Makes a copy of an existing terminal file
  CORE (CO)   Alters the amount of core store available to an object program
  CREATE (CE)   Create a direct access file in filestore and/or pushes down the workfile stack
 
  DEAD (DD)   Withdraws magnetic tapes from the system
  DELETE (DL)   Puts the object program into a deleted state and deletes the current core image
  DETACH (DH)   Detach a line from a conceptual multiplexor or uniplexor
  DIRECTORY (DY)   Changes the job's current directory
  DISCONNECT (DC)   Causes the curent MOP job to be disconnected from the MOP terminal and to continue as a background job
  DISENGAGE (DG)   Terminates the reading of commands from a paper tape or card reader
  DISPLAY (DP)   Causes a message to be sent
  DOCUMENT (DM)   Introduces an external document on a basic peripheral
  DUMP (DU)   Controls the incremental dumper
 
  EDIT (ED)   Edit a named file
  ENDJOB (EJ)   Terminates the execution of a background job
  ENTER (EN)   Causes the current object program to be entered at the specified entry point
  ENTRUST (ET)   Assigns trusted status to an object program
  ERASE (ER)   Removes a file from the filestore
  EXIT (EX)   Terminates the current macro/job definition file
  EXPRESS (EP)   Informs the High Level Scheduler subject program that a particular job is of great urgency and should not be made to wait before being made fully started
 
  FAIL (FA)   Puts the object program into a failed state
  FIND   Loads the named program from the specified magnetic tape or UDAS device (Format 1); or from a filestore magnetic tape file (Format 2)
  FINISH (FN)   Prevents the system from accepting or starting any more jobs
  FORCEPAGE (FP)   Ends the active page of operator's log (DME only)
  FORMATLOOP   Sets up a format loop data for line printers using simulated format loops
  FREE (FR)   To detach virtual 7900 identifiers from GEORGE 3 to enable them to be connected to another function under Communications Manager
  FREEZE (FZ)   Enables a user with the FREEZE privilege to user-freeze a directory or terminal file and thus stop any non-privileged user from accessing it
  FULLTRACE (FT)   Causes all relevant catergories of monitoring file output to be sent to the job's monitoring file
 
  GET (GE)   Causes a magnetic tape currently in the pool to be allocated to the user
  GETONLINE (GL)   Takes a magnetic tape from the pool, relabels it and makes it on-line to a program, or takes a worktape and makes it on-line to a program as a named worktape
  GOTO (GO)   Causes a branch to be made to another (labelled) command in a job description file or macro definition file
 
  HALT (HT)   Puts the object program into a halted state
  HARDWARE (HW)   Introduces to the system details of the devices attached to lines of character buffering uniplexers or multiplexers
  HOLD (HO)   Informs GEORGE that a disc is to be unloaded by simulating the function of the HOLD button
  HOWBIG (HB)   To enable the size of a file, or the total of files in a directory or directory tree, to be obtained efficiently (M263)
 
  IF (IF)   Causes a command to be obeyed if and only if a specified condition is satisified
  INCDUMP (ID)   To enable certain system actions mainly associated with the dumping system to be implemented via an ordinary job
  INITIALISE   Writes bucket headers and first, second and third level indexing to E.D.S. type filestore files
  INPUT (IN)   Read the lines immediately following into a serial file
  INSTPARA (IP)   List and set installation parameter values
 
  JOB (JB)   Introduces a job description to the system from a basic peripheral or MOP terminal, for running as a background job
  JOBDATA (JD)   Stores the scheduling requirements of a job in a file, which is consulted by the High Level Scheduler
  JOBTIME (JT)   Sets a limit on a job
 
  LABEL (LB)   Labels tapes which are not secure
  LIST (LL)   Allows a file to be LISTFILEd in NO USER context (M253)
  LISTDIR (LD)   Produces a listing of selected information about file entries contained in a directory
  LISTFILE (LF)   Outputs a part or all of a serial file on a basic peripheral or writes it to the monitoring file
  LISTIDF (LI)   x
  LISTINCINDEX (LX)   Lists :SYSTEM.INCINDEX on the line printer in an easily understood format
  LISTSERIAL (LS)   Lists the serial numbers and details of magnetic tapes held in :SYSTEM.SERIAL
  LOAD (LO)   Forms a core image of the binary program contained in a named file
  LOADENTER (LE)   Combines the functions of LOAD and ENTER
  LOGACCESS (LA)   To mark secure entrants as logged-access
  LOGIN (LN)   Starts a MOP job
  LOGOUT (LT)   Terminates a MOP job
 
  MACDEF (MD)   Inputs a macro definition to the filestore
  MAKEDIR (MK)   Sets up an empty directory with a given file name
  MAKEVCC (MV)   Introduces to the system a virtual 7900 communications processor unit with details of its configuration

  MAXSIZE (MZ)   Sets an upper limit to the size of the core image within a job
  MODE (MO)   Sets the mode of operation of the specified switchable deck
  MONITOR (MN)   Starts or stops the monitoring of program events of specified types
  MONRESUME (MR)   Restarts an object program which has generated a MONITOR event
  MOP (MP)   Changes the state of a multiplexer, uniplexer or communications processor
 
  NAMEPRIV (NM)   Renames a privilege
  NEEDS   Indicates to the high level scheduler the probable maximum number of online peripherals that will be required at any one time during the running of a job
  NEW (NE)   Introduces one or more magnetic tapes to the system as work tapes, pool tapes or owned tapes
  NEWPASSWORD (NP)   Changes the password of the proper user
 
  OBEY (OB)   Issues a file description as a macro
  OFF (OF)   Switches off the specified bits of the switch word
  ON (ON)   Switches on the specified bits of the switch word
  ONLINE (OL)   Connects a peripheral on-line to an object program
  ONLINEX   Connects a magnetic peripheral on-line to an object program
  OPERATOR (OP)   Enables a user to issue a command as if it were from an operator's console
 
  PAGES (PA)   Specifies the number of pages that require repeating on a line printer after a restart
  PRINT (PT)   Writes one or more regions of the current core image to the monitoring file system

  PROPERTY (PR)   Introduces the name of a peripheral property to the system
 
  QUESTION (QN)   Causes a question to be sent to the console
  QUIET (QI)   x

  REALTIME (RE)   REALTIME ON informs GEORGE that the current program must be kept permanently in store and plugged in
  REDON (RO)   Simulates a command issued by a specified peripheral or indicates to the Librarian that a special tape or disc is to be loaded or engaged
  REGENERATE (RG)   x
  RELEASE (RL)   Releases a peripheral from the current core image
  RENAME (RN)   Renames a file or a magnetic tape
  RENAMEDIR (RD)   Alters the name in a tape's directory entry
  REPERTOIRE (RR)   Allows a central operator either to specify, or to discover the current specification of, the effective print width or stationary page length of a central printer. For a train printer it can also specify or discover the current specification of the character set
  REPORT (RP)   Specifies the selection of the monitoring file to be output at the MOP terminal during the execution of a MOP job

  RESUME (RM)   Restarts an object program

  SPEAK (SK)   Causes a message to be sent to a specified operator's console or consoles

  STOPLIST (SL)   Deletes all or some entries in :SYSTEM.OUTPUT of files waiting to be listed following a LISTFILE command

  TAPERIGHT (TH)   Tapes specified by the parameters are freed from the effect of a TAPEWRONG command
  TAPES (TP)   Produces a listing of all or part of the contents of :SYSTEM.SERIAL as selected by the parameters
  TAPEWRONG (TW)   Tapes specified in the parameters will be recorded as not available for use until a TAPERIGHT command is given in the same context
  TELELOAD (TD)   x
  TERMINATE (TE)   Terminates the activity of a local or remote basic peripheral
  TIME (TI)   Causes the program timer to be set to the specified number of seconds or minutes
  TRACE (TA)   Limits output to the job's monitoring file to a specified set of categories

  TRAPGO (TG)   Permits a specified user to have access to an entrant that belongs to the proper user

  TRAPSTOP (TS)   Unsets a group trap or an individual user trap governing specified modes to access to an entrant belonging to the proper user
  TRANSPORTS (TR)   Outputs a list of the operator's numbers of magnetic tape decks that are available from the loading of magnetic tapes
  TWIN (TN)   To pass information to the exofile twinning activity
 
  UNJAM (UJ)   To force Backing Store Unjammer to run (M336)
  UNLOAD (UL)   Frees a basic peripheral which has a document loaded on it, or rewinds the magnetic tape on a specified deck and frees the deck
  URGENCY (UR)   Notifies the high level scheduler of the urgency of a job
 
  WAIT (WT)   Suspends a job for a specified time or until a secure dump of filestore has been made
  WHATGENS (WG)   To enable the highest and lowest generation numbers to be found (M262)

  WHATLIST (WL)   Produces a listing of some or all of the files waiting to be listed, or in the process of being listed following a LISTFILE command
  WHATPER (WP)   Outputs on the operator's console information about the state of a specified local peripheral, or of all local peripherals of a specified type

  WHATRVS (WV)   Outputs to a line printer or operator's console a specified amount of information about a specified selection of RETRIEVE requests

  COMMENT LINES   A comment line may be issued from any command source. It is not a command. A comment line must start with the character "#" as the first non-space character of a record. This character need not be followed by a space. Any characters may follow "#" up to the end of the record, but the comment line cannot be carried over to the next record.
The command processor does not analyse a comment line. As soon as it reads the "#" character, it writes the whole record to the monitoring file system (COMMANDS category).

  MAKEVDF   Brings in the VDF from a named GEORGE partial source tape and sets up the filestore version
